Color Scheme Tips

Do you have a hard time color coordinating a project or even your house?  You have great big ideas, but the color does not go well together?  Yes, we have all been there!  Here are a few tips to help you the next time you want to paint your bedroom or make a blanket.

Play with the color wheel

Remember that thing called the color wheel from your elementary school art class? Well, it's time to put it to good use! The color wheel is your secret weapon for creating harmonious color schemes. You have three main options:

Analogous: Choose colors that are next to each other on the color wheel for a harmonious and soothing look. Think of shades of blue and green or yellow and orange. It's like a match made in color heaven!

Complementary: Pick colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel for a bold and eye-catching look. Think of blue and orange or purple and yellow. It's like a color explosion!

Monochromatic: Stick to different shades and tints of the same color for a sophisticated and elegant look. Think of different shades of blue or various tones of pink. It's like a color symphony!

Test, test, test!

Now that you have a few color schemes in mind, it's time to put them to the test. Grab some paint samples or find some online color palette generators (yes, they exist!) to see how your chosen colors look together. Remember, what looks good on paper (or on a screen) may not always translate well to your walls. So, test it out before committing to a full-blown color scheme.

Don't forget the 60-30-10 rule

Okay, okay, I know math might not be your thing, but bear with me for a moment. The 60-30-10 rule is a simple formula that will help you achieve a well-balanced color scheme. Here's how it works:

60%: This is your dominant color. It should cover the majority of your space, like your walls or furniture.

30%: This is your secondary color. It should complement your dominant color and be used for things like curtains or accent furniture.

10%: This is your accent color. It should add a pop of personality to your space and be used sparingly in accessories or artwork.

Go forth and conquer!

Armed with these tips, you're ready to pick out the perfect color scheme for your space. Remember to have fun with it and let your personality shine through. After all, your space should be a reflection of you. So, go forth and conquer the color wheel like the design superhero you are!
